Female Body Found in Cape Fear River

Volunteers resumed the search for Pfc Kelli Bordeaux on Saturday.  Bordeaux a Fort Bragg soldier went missing 6 weeks ago after leaving the Foggy Bottoms in Fayetteville. 

On Sunday the body of a woman was found in the Cape Fear River near Campbellton Landing in Fayetteville, police said.

Fayetteville police responded to the scene, near 1122 Person St., around 1 p.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing a body floating in the river. Police have since handed the case over to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

In a news report, Sheriff’s office spokesperson said that investigators have not identified the body, but don’t believe it belongs to missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux.

The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

No other information was released.
