Previous Story – A call came into to Wayne County Dispatch after 3:00 this afternoon about a double shooting on Capps Bridge Road. Once on the scene, Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered a deceased male in a pickup truck just off the bridge, a mile or two from Evergreen Memorial Cemetary. The male died from an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.
A female at the sight had also been shot, again, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. She was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then flown to Vidant Medical Center in very poor condition, acccording to authorities.
Due to the recent timeline and out of respect for family members who may not have been notified yet, we are not posting any information about the identities of the victims at this time.
Witnesses on the scene said the truck had been seen in that location multiple times today, beginning as early as noon. In addition, the two victims did know each other and were identified as boyfriend and girlfriend according to a woman at the scene whose son had been with the female victim prior to the shooting.
The Sheriff’s office said the investigation is continuing but information gathered to date and evidence at the scene indicates that foul play IS NOT involved. Sheriff Carey Winders expresses his deepest sorrow to the families of these two young people whose life ended before it really began.
We will update you on the female’s condition and full details as soon as the information becomes available.
