Ice More A Problem For Wayne County

North Carolina’s governor says winter weather has caused hundreds of car crashes and is urging people to stay off the roads. Gov. Roy Cooper says there were at least 260 traffic accidents between midnight and 6 a.m. He says after precipitation stops, bitter cold will blow in and refreeze any slush on the roads. The National Weather Service says Greensboro, Burlington and Roxboro have had more than 8 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service says precipitation will taper off by 4pm in Goldsboro. Skywarn spotters in the county reported 1/2 inch of snow and 1/8 inch of ice. Wayne County is still under a Winter Weather Warning until 7pm tonight with chances for freezing rain, sleet, and some snow until later this afternoon. Highs are not expected to get above freezing until Monday with a high of 29 degrees today, down to 13 overnight tonight, and only 27 degrees tomorrow.
