Goldsboro Police Announces New Citizen Police Program

Goldsboro Police officers are bringing the community together to help citizens appreciate and understand the challenges they face every day.

The Goldsboro Police Department is proud to announce the establishment of its very own Citizen Police Academy. The academy is open to those 18 years old and older who live, work, and play in and around Goldsboro. The program will provide an informative and eye-opening experience to its participants. The Academy’s classes include topics like: Community-Police Relations, Legal Review, Building Searches, Use of Force, and Criminal Investigations. These topics, along with others, will give participants a greater understanding of the Goldsboro Police Department and an appreciation for the challenges facing law enforcement.

The program aims to build stronger police/community relationships, create a better understanding of police functions, give citizens the opportunity to give feedback and suggestions, increase community support, and create responsible and well-informed citizens.

Applications are being taken now through February 3, 2017. The first academy session will begin on March 7, 2017 and will be held each Tuesday night from 6pm-9pm through May 9, 2017. Applications can be downloaded from the Goldsboro Police Department’s webpage and are available in hardcopy from the Police Department Lobby and the front desk at City Hall.
