Car Crashes Into Pond (PHOTOS)

Early Saturday Morning just before sunrise, the Calypso Fire Department was dispatched to a single vehicle accident on U.S. 117 bypass near Calypso Farm Supply. As fire units and Duplin County Med Unit arrived on the scene they found the driver of the vehicle standing out near the crash scene soaking wet. The car involved in the accident had run off the road and came to stop in a pond near the intersection of U.S. 117 bypass and West Trade Street in Calypso. The driver was alone while driving a Chrysler 300. The vehicle was heading south on the U.S. 117 bypass and proceeded to run off the right shoulder, down the embankment, struck a culvert sending the car airborne through a fence, and crashing into the pond. Duplin County EMS checked the driver on the scene. Duplin County Sheriff Department assisted on the scene until a Duplin County Highway Patrol Officer arrived and took the driver into custody.
