Police And Sheriff Press Charges In String Of Robberies

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, in conjunction with the Goldsboro Police Department and Duplin County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division, have worked together over the last three months on a series of armed robberies occurring at Family Dollar Stores, Dollar General Stores and other convenience/neighborhood stores.

The following is a list of the armed robberies that occurred in the city of Goldsboro that are believed to have been committed by the same person:

  1. ABC Store 1316 W. Grantham St. Goldsboro NC – On 08/31/2016 at 2055 hours a black male entered the ABC store. He brandished a handgun and demanded money from the register.
  2. Family Dollar 2529 E. Ash St Goldsboro NC – On 10/06/2016 at 2224 hours a black male forced two employees back into the Family Dollar at closing time. The suspect was armed with a handgun and demanded money. He also took the employees cell phones.
  3. Subway Restaurant 101 Patetown Rd Goldsboro NC – On 10/16/16 at 1100 hours a black male entered the Subway with a handgun. He jumped over the counter and demanded money from two employees.
  4. Burger King 1901 N. Berkeley Blvd Goldsboro NC – On 10/21/16 at 2227 hours a black male entered Burger King with a handgun and demanded money from the employees. He fled out the back door.
  5. Family Dollar 2529 E. Ash St Goldsboro NC – On 11/30/16 at 0600 hours a black male approached an employee of Family Dollar as she opened the store. He took her cell phone. Once inside he demanded money. He brandished a handgun during the incident. He then took the employee’s vehicle and fled the scene.
  6. Hardees 1109 Eleventh St Goldsboro NC – On 12/08/16 at 0645 hours a black male entered the Hardees and jumped over the counter. He displayed a handgun and demanded money, however, he fled the scene before getting money from the business.
  7. Ms. B. Johnson 601 Royal Ave Goldsboro NC – On 12/08/16 at 0955 hours a black male approached a woman in the Wages parking lot. He displayed a handgun and demanded the woman’s car keys. He fled with her vehicle.
  8. Dollar General 1400 W. Grantham St Goldsboro NC – On 12/09/16 at 2210 hours a black male approached two employees as they were closing the Dollar General. He had a handgun and forced them into the business and demanded money.
  9. Circle K 600 N. Spence Ave Goldsboro NC – On 01/28/16 at 0600 hours a black male approached an employee of the Circle K as she was opening the store. He produced a handgun and demanded money. He took the employee’s vehicle and fled the scene.

Warrants have been secured on Warren Baker Jr. for 1 count of attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, 12 counts of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, 6 counts of 2nd degree Kidnapping, and 3 counts of Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. Baker is currently being held in the Cumberland County Jail for the armed robbery of a Starbucks in Fayetteville.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s office filed separate charges against Baker and one other individual in other robberies.

On December 15, 2016, the Dollar General Store located at 2551 N C Highway 13 North was robbed at closing time. The suspect confronted the employees as they left the store and were in the process of locking the front door. The employees were forced back inside the store where they were held at gunpoint and money was taken from the store safe. Also taken during this robbery was cigarettes and the employee’s cell phones. The subject fled the area by running west and then the employees immediately saw a SUV style vehicle leave from behind the store.

On January 10, 2017, the Dollar General Store located at 100 Genoa Crossing Road, Goldsboro was robbed at closing time. The suspect confronted the employees as they left the store and were in the process of locking the front door. The employees were forced back inside the store where they were held at gunpoint and money was taken from the store safe. Also taken during this robbery was cigarettes. The subject fled on foot.

Warren Baker and Richard Larry Turner were both charged with these two crimes. Both are being charged with 1 count Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon & 1 count 2nd Degree Kidnapping (for Highway 13 North incident) and an additional 1 count Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and 1 count 2nd Degree Kidnapping (for Genoa Crossing incident).

Baker is currently in jail in Cumberland County and Turner has received a $157,000 bond.

    Thugs are coming out of the wood work in Goldsboro! Anyone who commits armed robberies should not get a bail amount! They don’t need to be back on our streets!!! Keep the thugs in jail!

    You don’t hear about the white dudes running these companies who are robbing from the top. & getting much more money by the way because some of these companies are suffering while the CEOs get bonuses.
