The governor visits Wayne County to talk about the recovery effort following Hurricane Matthew. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper was in Goldsboro Thursday to hold a roundtable discussion with county leaders to check up on the status and current needs following the hurricane that caused widespread flooding just over six-months ago. Cooper says North Carolina is applying for approximately $929 million in federal aid to help recover from the disaster. The funds would be used for affordable housing repair and assistance for impacted small businesses. Governor Cooper also says North Carolina has to learn from a disaster like Matthew. That federal funding request has been sent to Congress, and Governor Cooper is hopeful it will be approved.
