Online Scam Costs Thousands

A local woman gets caught in an online scam, and it costs her thousands. The Goldsboro Police Department reports a city resident claims she had signed up for a mystery shopping company online.  She was sent three checks totaling over $13,000, and she immediately deposited the checks into her bank account.  The resident was then contacted by a person claiming to work for the company asking for her to wire transfer funds to them.  She did and the next time she went to take money out from an ATM, she was notified that the checks she’d deposited were invalid, and her account was now nearly $7,000 in the negative.
