​The Kornegay Arena on the campus of University of Mount Olive was packed Thursday night with parents and friends as they watched over 270 students from Southern Wayne High School get their diplomas at commencement exercises. Southern Wayne Senior Class President, Manny Walker, welcomed the students and parents.  Special music was performed by the Southern Wayne Concert Chorus. Recognition of Guests was by Dr. John Boldt, Principal of Southern Wayne, followed by the introduction of speakers by Assist Principal Angie Grantham. This year’s Salutatorian was Louise Freemen, and the Valedictorian was Cassidy Mason. The presentation of diplomas was done by principal Dr. John Boldt, Assistant Principal Angie Grantham, Assistant Principal Dexter Evans, and Chief Marshal David Caudill.
