The North Carolina Department of Transportation has released its draft State Transportation Improvement Plan for 2018-2027. The revised ten-year plan adds new projects and accelerates a number of already funded projects for the various divisions.  The final 2018-2027 STIP is expected to be approved by the Board in August.

The new local projects include:

Accelerated projects include:

  • The U.S. 70 Kinston Bypass in Lenoir County moves up by one year, from 2025 to 2024
  • Building a 10-foot wide greenway in Wayne County from the U.S. 70 Bypass to Royal Avenue has been moved to 2017
  • Upgrading U.S. 70 to freeway standards from the U.S. 70 Bypass to east of Lube Smith Road in Wayne County will begin in 2023 instead of 2026
