Pilot Broadband Program In Wayne County

Wayne County is entering a pilot program that could lead to improved broadband internet access for rural areas across the county.

This week, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners approved the agreement with Open Broadband, LLC for the pilot program that will provide fixed wireless broadband internet in the Seven Springs area.

Wayne County Manager George Wood explained the fixed wireless internet uses antennas based on tall towers or structures.

The pilot broadband project will cost the county about $39,000 for engineering. The Wayne County Commissioners pointed out the internet service will be available to residents in the test area for around $39 a month.

Wood says if the pilot broadband project works, Open Broadband will be ready to deploy the program across the county’s underserved areas as quickly as possible.
