School Supply Push During American Education Week

(NORTH CAROLINA NEWS NETWORK) — North Carolina’s Dept. of Administration Secretary Machelle Sanders is visiting schools around the state this week to mark American Education Week… a nearly 100 years old observance which honors the role of public schools in communities. Sanders says teachers at public schools statewide — many of whom recently lobbied against the state’s forthcoming class size mandate that will have an effect on school spending— still pay out of pocket for class supplies.  Sanders says there was a recent state employee drive to collect school supplies for teachers in hurricane-impacted areas.  All this week Governor Roy Cooper and members of his cabinet will visit schools across North Carolina to highlight the importance of public education.
