Cause Of Fire Determined After Man Found Dead In Home (PHOTOS)

Authorities have been investigating the fire after a man was found dead yesterday in a home in Pikeville.

Dispatchers received the call around 12:13pm Saturday in reference to a structure fire at 120 Weathervane Road off of Nor-Am Road.

Nahunta, Little River, and Pikeville Fire all responded as well as EMS. The two story residence was involved with fire near the garage area. During the extinguishment and search of the home, 79 year old Landis Jones was found on the first floor in a bathroom. Jones was deceased when he was brought outside the home.

Authorities have determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.

The fire marshal was contacted for assistance in determining the origin and cause of the fire. The incident was also investigated by the Wayne County Sheriffs Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
