DOT Prepares, Offers Advice For Snowy Roadways

The local DOT facility has been preparing for winter’s worst. Luther Thompson is the Transportation Supervisor for the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Wayne County.  He says earlier this week, the DOT was treating the county’s more heavily travelled roads in case the flakes fly.

Thompson says the DOT usually waits until there’s about an inch of snow on the ground before sending out the plows.  Thompson says drivers are asked to leave some room between their vehicles and any DOT equipment out clearing the roads.

Thompson reminds that even when the roads look clear of snow, drivers still need to be cautious.  Ice can form on roadways that look cleared.

If the forecast holds and the Wayne County area gets around 3-4 inches, Thompson says it can take the Wayne County DOT workers up to three days to complete the snow-clearing work.
