City & County Meet, Discuss Projects

City of Goldsboro and Wayne County leaders meet to discuss mutual items of interest. Members of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners and the Goldsboro City Council gathered at the Goldsboro Event Center for Wednesday afternoon’s joint meeting.

James Wade, the General Manager of the Maxwell Center, gave an update on the new facility that’s scheduled to open in March.

One outstanding issue that will affect both the city and county is the need for a new hotel near the Maxwell Center. Goldsboro City Manager Scott Stevens says the city has been working diligently to attract a hotel developer.

Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation Executive Director Julie Metz gave an update on the city/county project that will lead to the redevelopment of six downtown buildings.

The commissioners and council members also heard updates on the new Multi-Sports Complex and Wayne County Development Alliance at Wednesday’s meeting.
