Training Exercise Tests Airmen At SJAFB (PHOTO GALLERY)

Getting ready for a worst case scenario at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Simulated gunfire and explosions could be heard throughout the Air Force base in Goldsboro Thursday morning.

The operational readiness exercise prepared the airmen for a potential armed chemical attack.

Staff Sergeant Darrell Bowers explained the exercise tested the base’s security force.  Bowers says the security force was already very familiar with the weapons used in Thursday’s exercise.

During the exercise, the airmen were in the highest level of protection, donning protective gear, masks, and using firearms set for the non-lethal training scenario.
