School Board Honors SRO Artis

Wayne County Public Schools say goodbye to a long-time and well-liked School Resource Officer.

Goldsboro Police Officer Nicki Artis spent over 13-years as the SRO at Goldsboro High School.  The Wayne County Board of Education honored Officer Artis and his service at last week’s meeting.

Board Chair Patricia Burden thanked Artis for everything he did for the district.  Burden says Officer Artis is a special person to students, staff, and the school board.

While serving as the SRO, Artis was also responsible for coordinating security for any school district events in the City of Goldsboro. He also provided security at Board of Education meetings from 2010 through 2016.

Officer Artis is moving on to a liaison position between the Goldsboro Police Department and the Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department.

Former GHS SRO Nicki Artis (center) was joined by his family, Goldsboro Police Chief, Mike West, and friends, including retired WCPS superintendent, Dr. Steven Taylor.
