GPD Officer Completes Justice Academy Traffic Training

A local cop completes his specialized training through the North Carolina Justice Academy. Officer Melvin Walton Smith, II of the Goldsboro Police Department recently completed the Academy’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Certificate Program.  Officer Smith is the 286th officer to receive the certificate through the program.  The certificate program requires officers to complete 500-hours of training with a focus on traffic enforcement and investigation.  The Goldsboro Police Department says Officer Smith has been with the GPD’s Traffic Unit since 2014, but has been working on the completion of the certificate for the past seven years.
