Wings Over Wayne Named “Event Of The Year”

Wings Over Wayne wins a very prestigious state award.

This week, the 2017 Wings Over Wayne Air Show was named “Event of the Year” by the North Carolina Association of Festivals and Events.  Ashlin Glatther, the Director of Travel and Tourism for Goldsboro and Wayne County, was at the 2018 ShowFest Conference in Charlotte.  She accepted the award on behalf of the city, county, and the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

The 2017 Wing’s Over Wayne Air Show on May 20th and 21st  saw record-breaking attendance with over 230,000 people checking out the two day event at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.  Glatther says the award is a testament to the airmen and volunteers that made Wings Over Wayne such a success.

Besides “Event of the Year,” Goldsboro’s Beak Week Poultry Festival was also awarded with the “Rising Star Award.”  The North Carolina Pickle Festival in Mount Olive was also recognized for “Best Merchandise” and “Best Print Media.”

Glatther hopes the recognitions will help the Goldsboro and Wayne County community see itself in a positive light.
