SJAFB Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony For KC-46A Facilities (PHOTO GALLERY)

The airfield at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will be getting an over $70 million makeover.

The 916th Air Refueling Wing stationed at the Air Force base in Goldsboro hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for the new state-of-the-art facilities for the KC-46A Pegasus aircraft.

Col. Scovill Currin, the Commander of the 916th ARW, says this will be an “unbelievably robust construction project.”  Currin says the new KC-46A will lead to more personnel for the 916th ARW at the base.

The construction will include replacing an existing hangar as well as other facility improvements.  Chris Morgan is the General Manager and Vice President of Walbridge, the general contractor for the new KC-46A facilities at Seymour Johnson.  Morgan says some of the work will be handled locally.

Seymour Johnson will be the first Air Force Reserve-led main operating base for the KC-46A Pegasus.  The first KC-46A is expected to arrive for the 916th ARW in the summer of 2020.
