County Commissioners Discuss School Violence

Last week’s deadly school shooting in Florida may have happened hundreds of miles away, but the tragedy still hits too close to home for many in the community.

The school shooting that left 17 people dead was on the minds of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners during Tuesday’s meeting.

Commissioner Ray Mayo says the county and Wayne County Public Schools need to address school safety as soon as possible.

Commissioner Edward Cromartie did not shy away from the issue of gun control.

Wayne County Board Chair Bill Pate says “our hearts go out” to the Florida school shooting victims.

Commissioner Wayne Aycock also mentioned the school shooting victims during the invocation that started Tuesday’s county board meeting.
