Increased Police Patrols Near Wayne County Schools

Students at Wayne County Public Schools may notice an increased police presence around the classroom. Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce told the county commissioners Tuesday the Florida school shooting has prompted local law enforcement to step up patrols at or near Wayne County schools.  Sheriff Pierce says law enforcement and the school district are also taking any potential threats posted across social media very seriously.  He reminds parents and students to contact law enforcement if they happen across a threat on social media, rather than reposting and further spreading the information.  Pierce says Wayne County Public Schools and the sheriff’s office have been talking about options to better secure the county’s schools.
