Duplin Co. Sheriff Holds Opioid Abuse Event

(NORTH CAROLINA NEWS NETWORK) — Counties across the East continue to fight the battle against opioids. It’s an issue affecting all areas of life. The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office says the only way to change the numbers is through education and enforcement.

Sheriff Blake Wallace held an Opioid Awareness Presentation on Thursday. Sheriff Wallace tells WNCT News opioids are readily available in most medicine cabinets in every home.

Recovering addict Shane Kennedy also spoke at the drug awareness meeting in Duplin County last week.  He told WNCT News he was a “functioning addict” that used even while he was at work.

Stakeholders from the medical community to school system attended the event, where the sheriff laid out his plan of education and enforcement.
