Insurer Won’t Cover Church Ceiling Collapse

There’s a major hiccup in the effort to repair a Wayne County church.

The ceiling at Saint Delight United Holy Church in La Grange came crashing to the ground during Sunday services on January 21st.  Luckily, no one was injured as services were being held in the fellowship hall that Sunday.

Now, the insurance company for Saint Delight says it won’t cover the damage due to deterioration of the ceiling and insufficient attic ventilation.

Saint Delight Pastor Devin Pickett, Sr. believes the church is being treated unfairly, and the congregation is hoping to challenge the insurance company’s decision.  Pickett says estimates for repairing the damage have run over $100,000.

Pastor Pickett says Saint Delight will continue holding services in its fellowship hall for the time being.

Saint Delight United Holy Church is insured through Travelers Indemnity Company of Connecticut.
