Little Improvement In N.C. Reading Scores

(NORTH CAROLINA NEWS NETWORK) — New numbers show little improvement in fourth and eighth-grade reading and math.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress showed About 39% of North Carolina fourth-graders and 33% of eighth-graders were rated proficient in reading.

Brenda Berg with NC Best, a business-led education advocacy group, says there’s room for improvement.

In eighth-grade math, 35% of North Carolina students rated proficient and 68 percent rated at least basic.
