G.R.E.A.T. Summer Camp Offers Police Experiences

The Goldsboro Police Department is holding a free summer camp for kids.

Cpl. Dillon Fleming is with the GPD’s Community Police Services Division.

He says the weeklong G.R.E.A.T. Summer Camp will incorporate law enforcement practices, including fingerprinting, a field day with the SWAT Team, and working with a K9 unit.

All the participating youth will also be taken to a Kinston Wood Ducks baseball game as part of the camp.

Cpl. Fleming says G.R.E.A.T. stands for Gang Resistance Education and Training.

Fleming says it’s essential for police to have positive interactions with kids, especially during that period where they may be thinking about future careers.

The first week of the GPD’s Summer Camp is for ages 8 – 11 and is already completely filled.

The second week of the camp runs from July 23rd through July 27th for ages 12 – 15 and spaces are still available.

Parents interested in having their kids attend the G.R.E.A.T. Summer Camp can contact Cpl. Fleming at 919-580-4256 or at [email protected].
