Wayne County Hires New Economic Director

County Manager Craig Honeycutt and the Wayne County Board of Commissioners have announced Mark Pope has been hired as Wayne County’s Economic Director.

Pope, currently the Economic Director for Lenoir County, will assume the new position on September 4th.

A Lenoir County native and East Carolina University graduate, Pope has served as the Economic Director in his home county since 2005, and currently serves as the President of the North Carolina Economic Directors Association.

Prior to 2005, Pope spent over 20 years in the banking industry.

Honeycutt says Pope has a wonderful, proven, track record in Eastern North Carolina, and is one of the most respected Economic Development directors in the state.

Wayne County Development Alliance Executive Board member David Perry stated he is thrilled Pope accepted the position.
