Goldsboro High School students get community encouragement as they start a new school year.

Tuesday, Goldsboro civic leaders, community organizers and citizens welcomed back Goldsboro High’s students and staff.

Mark Colebrook with Operation Unite Goldsboro says he’d like to see the effort expand across Wayne County Public Schools.

Colebrook says he hopes the support the students received Tuesday will carry on through the 2018-2019 academic year.

Those interested in volunteering to assist, tutor, or mentor Goldsboro and Wayne County students are encouraged to contact Operation Unite Goldsboro or the actual schools themselves.

This was the second year of the Welcome Back Cougars event.
