Broadband Internet Project Continues Across Wayne Co.

Wayne County residents are excited about the prospect of broadband internet access in underserved rural areas.

That’s according to Alan Fitzpatrick, the CEO of Open Broadband.

Fitzpatrick updated the Wayne County Commissioners this week on Open Broadband’s pilot program that’s providing internet access to new areas across the county.

Open Broadband has been building a broadband network by locating wireless broadband equipment on towers or “vertical assets” across the county.

Fitzpatrick says there haven’t been many signups in the northern area of the county yet as the company only has one tower set up in the Fremont area.

Fitzpatrick says the Seven Springs and Grantham areas are the next priorities for the wireless internet project.

Fitzpatrick says Open Broadband is here to stay in Wayne County, with plans to steadily continue to upgrade wireless internet access in rural areas.

Open Broadband is still planning to bring gigabit internet to Goldsboro in the future.
