Email Blast Urges Homeowners To Apply For Hurricane Assistance

There’s a new email outreach effort to get homeowners who were impacted by Hurricane Matthew to apply for housing recovery assistance.

Greg Thomas is with North Carolina Emergency Management.

He says the new email blast could be followed by text messaging, phone calls and post cards reminding affected residents to apply for hurricane recovery assistance.

The Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program can help storm-impacted homeowners and landlords repair or rebuild following the October 2016 storm.

Thomas reminds there’s already $739 million on the ground in North Carolina for Hurricane Matthew relief.

However, some families eligible for the CDBG-DR funds have not applied or finished the application process.

The first step in the process is to call 2-1-1 and make an appointment to start the recovery application process.

Property owners still needing assistance recovering from Hurricane Matthew are also encouraged to visit the recently revamped website, rebuild.nc.gov.
