William Elwood “Bill” Elmore,

September 8, 77,

William Elwood “Bill” Elmore, 77, was called home to his heavenly reward on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Bill was born September 2, 1941 to the late Harold Elmore and Emma Grady Elmore. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhylee Elmore Fielding on December 7, 2017; and a brother, Edward Harold “Rusty” Elmore.

Bill graduated from Atlantic Christian College and embarked on a career in agriculture. He retired from the Lenoir County Farm Service Agency, where he was County Executive Director. Bill was a member of Gordon Street Christian Church, where he served as an elder.

A lover of sports, Bill played baseball while attending Atlantic Christian and later fell in love with the game of golf. The highlights of his week were his Tuesday and Thursday get-togethers with his golf buddies. Bill was an avid fan of his beloved NC State Wolfpack. Trips to Raleigh for every Wolfpack Basketball game were exciting events for Bill. Things were always better for him when his Wolfpack were winning.

Bill built his life around the principles of honesty, faithfulness, and hard work. He was often quietly working behind the scenes to ensure that the job was done. His personal motto was, “Don’t tell what you can do; show what you can do.” Though he was a man of few words, when Bill spoke, he spoke with purpose and meaning. Born a gentle soul, he was honest to a fault and always generous with his resources. Bill lived a life of selflessness and always put the needs of others ahead of his own.

The consummate family man, Bill took great pride in his wife, children, and grandchildren. His faithfulness and attention endeared him to those he loved. No matter what was going on around him, Bill always made time for family and friends. Known for his wit and dry sense of humor, Bill enjoyed stirring the pot and showed his affection by picking at folks.

A service to celebrate and honor Bill’s life will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Gordon Street Christian Church. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the memorial service. Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Westview Cemetery.

Bill is survived by his wife, Glenda Barwick Elmore; two daughters, Robin Elmore Beaman and husband, Rusty, and Rebecca Elmore Journigan and husband, Jim; son-in-law, Richard Thomas Fielding; and his six precious grandchildren, Macy, Pierce, Carson, Ellie, Fisher and Sally.
