Hurricane Watch Issued For Region

The local area is officially under a Hurricane Watch.

The National Weather Service has issued the Hurricane Watch for areas including Wayne and Lenoir counties.

Hurricane Florence is expected to approach the North Carolina coast on Thursday and then slowly drift north and west, impacting much of Central and Eastern Carolina into the weekend.

The storm may produce rainfall accumulations of 10 – 15 inches with strong sustained winds of 30 – 50 MPH.  Wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH are possible.  The storm may also lead to scattered tornadoes across the region into at least Friday.

Hurricane Florence has developed into a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 140 MPH.
