Info For Volunteers, Donations In The Aftermath Of Florence

Our community is well-versed on hurricanes, flooding, and the great need by many during and after the storm. As we know the citizens will show their kind and giving spirit, the County of Wayne has released the following regarding volunteers and donations.

Department of Social Services Director Tammy Schrenker, the official for shelters and donations, said, “Volunteers are important to our efforts and we value each one; however, we want to ensure the safety of our citizens and make certain each volunteer goes through a vetting process prior to placing them in the individual shelters. As such, we will not be able to accommodate walk-in volunteers at any shelter.”

She added, “Additionally, we expect to receive a tremendous amount of donations following the storm and have two areas staged to accept the generosity of our community. The locations are the Train Depot in Mount Olive on Main Street and The Farmers Market on Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro. Please do not take donations until we announce the operation times and that the sites are open, to avoid items being damaged during the storm.” Mrs. Schrenker added, “Any donations prior to the storm, especially much needed hygiene kits, can be taken to the Salvation Army in Goldsboro.”
