General Assembly Approves Florence Relief Bills

(NORTH CAROLINA NEWS NETWORK) — The North Carolina General Assembly on Tuesday began its special session by swiftly – and unanimously – passing two bills providing aid and relief to communities battered by Hurricane Florence.

The first bill, School Calendar & Pay, enables districts to write off up to 20 missed days, or a matching number of classroom hours, at their discretion.

The second bill, Hurricane Florence Emergency Response Act, establishes a $56.5 million Hurricane Florence Disaster Recovery Fund for more aid from state and federal governments.

The bill is on Gov. Roy Cooper’s desk who is expected to sign it.
