2 Charged With Attempted Murder Following Kinston Shooting

The Kinston Police Department responded to the report of shots fired on W. Caswell Street near N. Heritage Street on Friday.  Officers determined two vehicles had been involved in the shooting. One vehicle arrived at UNC Lenoir with one person suffering from a possible gunshot wound.  Lenoir County Sheriff deputies stopped a vehicle occupied by 42-year-old Jeffrey D. Sutton and 21-year-old Jeffrey D. Sutton, Jr., both of Kinston.  Further investigation led to the arrest of both Suttons for charges including Attempted Murder and Discharge a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle. The investigation revealed that the suspects and victims were familiar with each other and this was not a random act of violence.
