“Thank A Vet” Reception Is Center Of WCC’s Veterans Events

Wayne Community College invites the public to join it in honoring local veterans and military service members.

The college will hold its annual Veterans Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 8 in the Atrium of the Wayne Learning Center (main building) on its Wayne Memorial Drive campus.

The centerpiece of the event will be a “Thank A Vet” reception from 1 to 3 p.m.

“All Wayne County veterans are invited to a reception in their honor,” said Brenda Mercer Burgess, the college’s director of financial aid and veterans affairs. “The college community wants to shake their hands, listen to their stories, and thank them for what they have done for our country.”

Guests can drop in to enjoy refreshments and view veteran-created art. The exhibit is a component of the project that resulted in the “VetStories” stage production that will be presented at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 and 2 p.m. on Nov. 10 in the college’s Moffatt Auditorium.

Tickets for “Vet Stories” can be obtained by calling (919) 736-3300 or through www.eventbrite.com. Veterans’ tickets are free, others are $10.

Also during the time of the reception, the college will be hosting a Military and Partners Expo. It will open at noon and run through 3 p.m. and is also open to the public. Veterans groups, service branch representatives, and organizations that provide services to veterans and military members will man displays and provide information.

Wayne Community College encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing accommodations or have questions about access, contact the Disability Services Counselor at (919) 739-6729. Allow sufficient time to arrange accommodations.
