Wayne County Honors Fallen Firefighters (PHOTOS)

It was a somber anniversary for Wayne County’s firefighters.

Tuesday marked the 20th anniversary of the deaths of 1st Lt. Robby Blizzard and Chief Hubert Sydney Jones.

Both firefighters lost their lives during a November 6th, 1998, structure fire.

The fire was at a commercial warehouse at the Wayne Auto Salvage Company in Goldsboro.

Blizzard was a career member of the Goldsboro F.D. and was fighting the blaze as a volunteer with the Arrington Fire Department.

Jones was chief of the Thoroughfare Volunteer Fire Department.

A memorial service was held Sunday in the Chapel of Shumate Faulk Funeral Home in honor of Lieutenant Robby Blizzard of the Arrington Fire Department.

During the past few days, the GFD took part in trainings simulating the conditions in that deadly 1998 blaze.
