Ag Commissioner Pushes For Florence Assistance

(NORTH CAROLINA NEWS NETWORK) — State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler is urging state lawmakers to aid farmers who suffered $1.1 billion in losses from Hurricane Florence.

He tells farmers are hurting.

Officials have detailed for lawmakers the losses for various row crops, livestock and poultry operations and timber and nursery lands before laying out a $250 million list of needs to help farmers.

The plan includes everything from providing hay to animals over the winter to repairing farm roads to clearing streams and drainage ditches of debris.
