Support Military Spouses Distributes Holiday Items (PHOTOS)

The holidays are not always easy for families, and the hardships can be compounded if mom or dad is serving overseas.

As part of its annual holiday effort, the non-profit organization Support Military Spouses dropped off gifts to about 200 Goldsboro area military moms, dads and their children on Tuesday.

Jennifer Brandenburg is the board chair for Support Military Spouses.

Brandenburg says the Christmastime effort was nearly thwarted when Hurricane Florence flooded the organization’s warehouse in South Carolina.

All of the gifts collected so far throughout the year were destroyed, but Brandenburg says all the sponsors replaced all the gifts.

Tuesday’s event was held at the McDonald’s on Berkeley Boulevard and was sponsored in-part by the Wade Dixon-owned and operated chain of local McDonald’s.

Candace Windham, Marketing Manager for Dixon Food Group, says the Goldsboro holiday distribution keeps growing year after year.
