Ted Tillman

Calvin Steele “Ted” Tillman, 88, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Wayne UNC Healthcare surrounded by his family.

Ted was born in Wayne County on April 3, 1930 the youngest child of thirteen, to the late William Henry Tillman and Gola Summerlin Tillman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Alice Bradshaw Tillman. Ted had worked as a butcher and retired from the meat department at the commissary on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Ted was stationed in Germany and proudly served his country as a tank operator in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church. Ted was devoted to his church and was involved in many of their ministries where he utilized his abilities to share the love of God.

A service to celebrate Ted’s life will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Liz Hounshell and Rev. Sandy Schaller officiating. A private interment for the family will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Ted is survived by his daughters, Vicki Phillips and husband Tony of Goldsboro, and Lynette Overman and husband John of Pikeville; grandchildren, Nathan Overman, Matthew Overman and wife Samantha, Mitchell Phillips and wife Mary Beth, and Rebecca Harris and husband Will; great-grandchildren, Avie Overman, Sarah Overman, Greyson Phillips, Everly Phillips, Ivey Kate Harris and was anticipating the birth of Collins Tillman Harris in May.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 2706 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Seymour Funeral Home.
