Governor Tours Florence-Impacted Farm (PHOTOS)

Gov. Roy Cooper’s Tuesday visit to the Goldsboro area included a stop at Overman Farms near Mar-Mac where the governor got a firsthand look at the agriculture community’s continuing recovery efforts following Hurricane Florence.

Cooper says North Carolina’s farmers have suffered blow after blow due to the recent storms.

Gov. Cooper also says farmers are suffering due to the U.S.’s ongoing “tariff war.”

Lorenda Overman is an owner and operator of Overman Farms, which has applied for state and federal assistance following the September storm.

Overman says farmers “are not looking for charity,” but they need assistance getting through these hard times.

Overman Farms was still in the midst of recovering from 2016’s Hurricane Matthew when Florence delivered a second blow last year.

Gov. Cooper says keeping North Carolina’s farmers in business is vital to the state’s families and economy.
