Employee Accused Of Theft

A Mount Olive resident is accused of stealing from his place of employment.  On November 19th, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny by an employee from the south end of the county.  The investigation into the case reportedly revealed 39-year-old David B. Letchworth was an employee of the victim and was involved in the crime.  Letchworth was recently arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division without incident.  He’s charged with Larceny by Employee and Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.  Letchworth was given a $10,000 unsecured bond.

  1. It’s strange that no matter what the original reported story is about, the comments always seem to end up in discussions and disagreements about race and lack of responsibility? That really says a lot about our society.

No it is usually people condemning the crime and others making excuses. That is where our society is. There are those that view poor choices by an individual as victimization and those that don’t.

You’re exactly right Beverly but so many people today have a “I want it, I want it now and I’m going to get it regardless of the consequences” attitude. A major problem is our judicial system that fails to either sentence criminals or allows them leniency when they are convicted. Another story here on GDN about the man who was killed while breaking into someone’s house is a good example. He had previously been convicted of manslaughter and should have still been in prison for his last conviction of robbery with a dangerous weapon. In both cases (as well as with convictions for his other crimes) he was released early. He apparently had no hesitation about continuing his criminal lifestyle because he knew that there were no real consequences. “Three hots & a cot” for a few months & he’d have been back out on the streets again, terrorizing innocent people.

Just explaining why these “high paying” jobs that require a barely literate and unskilled workforce do not exist.
“yeah…..go wide adam……that’s the samething as running…..away from Wayne County ” That statement is not very clear. BTW ” same thing” is not one word. .”..away from wayne county ” what does that mean?

Mr C , with such poor grammar it is difficult to understand that statement. Education is the key to a better paying job, that’s a free tip.

You’re so right. As I’ve stated so many times, education is free and available to all, black, white, Asian, Hispanic, etc. It’s up to the individual to make an effort to take advantage of that opportunity and use that to go forth in life. As a business person, I want to have employees who project a good impression, both in their appearance and in their use of the English language. Neither Slim nor Mr C seem to take into consideration that no business owner is going to hire someone with such a poor ability to communicate and then pay them outrageous wages in the process. It’s all about self-worth, responsibility, accountability and even a bit of humility. So many people today have forgotten (or maybe have never learned) what it’s like to earn their way in life and apparently feel entitled to have the best at the expense of someone else’s labors.

    • The truly sad thing is…these folks don’t even realize how they sound to others when they speak. There’s really no legitimate excuse for such butchering of the language unless English is not your native language. Regardless of education levels, anyone can take the time to speak properly.

Stealing from your employer is a very stupid thing to do. He really thought he wouldn’t be caught? That’s a decent bond too, serves him right!

New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles have great paying jobs.

Their crime rates are also out of this world.

Having a good paying job doesn’t make you a saint.

been there,if your employer pays adequately, you have no need to steal,so you basically saying he’s stealing for nothing your statement lacks any deductive reasoning. Also you don’t know what the crime rate is anywhere other than where you are & it’s obvious you don’t even understand that.

So you can not know the crime rate of an area unless you live there? Now that is the comment of the month.

Salaries are tied to cost of living in that particular location. There are good jobs in Raleigh but look at cost of homes/rent. It usually means you aren’t a school drop out if you expect to get a good paying job.

Jim,that’s why people stealing from their employers….they get a job & still can’t live…it’s not a good answer….but it’s the dilemma…Wayne County needs better paying jobs.

Companies that offer high compensation generally tend to gravitate towards talent rich areas. That is not a concept that is difficult to understand. Should a company come here and offer six figure incomes to barely literate unskilled individuals? People tend to write like they speak. Comments like “that’s why people stealing from their employers” leads me to believe that some are being paid just what they are worth.
