Mack Donald “Bobby” Garner

March 11, 81, Mt. Olive

Mack Donald “Bobby” Garner, 81, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019. Bobby was born March 29, 1937 to the late Mack and Beulah Barwick Garner. His beloved wife of 61 years, Virginia Carter Garner, preceded him in death two years to the day on March 11, 2017.

Bobby retired from Mount Olive Pickle Company. Bobby was the epitome of a home-body. For him there was truly “no place like home.” He enjoyed the quiet and solitude that was found when around the house. He loved cutting his grass and took great care of his garden.

In his early years, Bobby loved to fish and hunt. Whether a pole in hand or out setting nets, the thrill of the catch gave him much joy. Bobby found pleasure in working in his shop. He always had a project in progress and was brilliant at figuring out the odds and ends of how things worked. Bobby could build most anything, could take it apart, and put it back together again. His love of his work lent to his peculiarity over his tools. Mack didn’t like to loan out his tools and kept a list of who had borrowed what.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Garner Family Cemetery.

Bobby is survived by three children, Billy Garner and wife, Sue, Don Garner and wife, Donna, and Larry Garner and his friend, Lisa Grant; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Garner; brother, Kenneth Garner; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren his faithful canine companion, Peanut. In addition to his parents and wife, Bobby was preceded in death by a son, Gary Garner; two sisters Louise Davis and Peggy Smith; and two brothers, Howell “Buddy” Garner and Ray Garner.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Part Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
