Storm Wreaks Havoc Across Fremont (PHOTOS)

A heavy thunderstorm slashed its way across northern Wayne County Monday afternoon.

The severe storm made its way east from Smithfield, delivering a direct strike to areas near Fremont.

Fremont Police Chief Paul Moats says he and his officers were out in the thick of it.

Chief Moats was stationed by the elementary school as the storm was about to hit.

Moats advises residents to report any damage by calling 911.

The police chief figures there’s probably over $1 million dollars’ worth of hail damage to vehicles in Fremont.

Chief Moats says, luckily, there were no immediate reports of injuries in the fast-moving storm.

Marble-size hail and strong winds damaged trees and buildings in areas surrounding Fremont.

The storm prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Tornado Warning.

Hail fell across areas of northern Wayne County Monday afternoon.
