“Hearts” Go Out To Detention Center Officers (PHOTOS)

A Wayne County woman continues her effort to spread the love to all those that serve and protect local residents.

Wednesday, Carole Smith of Pikeville dropped off her latest batch of “Hearts for Law Enforcement” at the Carey A. Winders Detention Center in Goldsboro.

Smith has already provided the hearts to the State Highway Patrol, Pikeville Police Department, Goldsboro Police Department, Mount Olive Police Department, Cherry Hospital Police Department, and Wayne UNC Health Care Police.

1st Sgt. Delbert Edwards at the detention center says its rare for the hard-working detention officers to hear a “thank you” from the public.

Once she provides the homemade hearts to all the law enforcement officers in Wayne County, Smith plans to start making the hearts for the county’s firefighters and rescue crews.

Anyone interested in assisting Smith with the “Hearts for Law Enforcement” effort, including making the actual hearts, can call 919-440-5101 or email [email protected]
