WCC To Hold Summer Camps For Middle & High School Students

Wayne Community College’s Workforce Continuing Education Division will offer 11 youth day camps this summer.

Allied Health Career Exploration Camp for rising sixth-eighth graders: 9 a.m.-noon, June 17-20; and for rising ninth-12th graders: 1-4 p.m., June 17-20 – These camps will provide a general overview of the allied health career field. Campers will receive a first aid and CPR certificate upon completion of the camp. Cost: $60.

Animal Science Career Exploration Camp: 1-4 p.m., July 15-18 – Campers will learn about careers in animal science and veterinary medicine through hands-on labs, workshops, and team building. Activities will include lessons in animal anatomy, food safety, chicken embryology, and animal care. It is designed for rising sixth-eighth graders. Cost: $60.

Aviation Camp: 9 a.m.-noon, July 22-25 – Rising sixth-eighth graders will explore aviation and discover the unlimited opportunities a career in aviation presents. The campers will have classroom as well as hands-on experiences and will construct and launch their own rockets. Cost: $80.

Business Boot Camp: 9 a.m.-noon, June 24-27 – Rising sixth-eighth graders will learn how money works and what it takes to work in business. They will get hands-on experience with a chance to create their own businesses and design a logo. Cost: $60.

Sew and Stitch Camp for rising sixth-eighth graders: 9 a.m.-12 p.m., July 15-18; and for rising ninth-12th graders: 1-4 p.m., July 22-25 – This camp will introduce basic sewing techniques, sewing machine operations, design principles, and much more while challenging campers to create a final project to display. Cost: $60.

Summer Enrichment: The Pre-College Experiment consists of two camps designed to reinforce and enhance seventh- and eighth-graders’ regular academic coursework. College instructors will facilitate content in reading and science, and provide an effective summer learning experience. Eye-Opening Science: 9 a.m.-noon, July 22-25;
Rise Up with Reading: 9 a.m.-noon, July 29-Aug. 1. Cost: $60.

Video Game Academy for rising sixth-eighth graders and for rising ninth-12th graders: 1-4 p.m., June 17-20 (two simultaneous camps) – Campers will interact with augmented reality holograms using the Microsoft Hololens, explore virtual reality environments, control games using the Emotive Insight Brainwear, create 3D models, develop digital graphics, and participate in a game tournament. Cost: $80.

All camps will be held on the college’s campus in Goldsboro except the Aviation Camp which will be conducted at the Wayne Executive Jetport in Pikeville.
