Post 11 Wins First Playoff Game Against Pitt Co.

Clay Matthews finished with three hits, including a home run, and Wayne County Post 11 defeated Pitt County 39 8-4 in game one of their best-of-five Area I East second round playoff series on Tuesday night at Goldsboro High School.

Matthews had two RBI and Will Uzzell also had three hits, as part of Post 11’s 13 hit outburst. Case Kermode and Logan Price both finished with two hits.

Wayne County pushed across six runs during the first two innings, and chased Pitt County starting pitcher Christopher Hunter from the ballgame in the second inning.

Post 11 starting pitcher Blake Dilda surrendered four earned runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work. Wesley Case and Will Harris each pitched an inning of scoreless relief.

Wayne County (23-6) has won 11 consecutive games and continues its playoff series against Pitt tonight at 7 p.m. at Pitt Community College.
