Suspect Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 7-Year-Old

Bond is set at $2.5 million secured for a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old. In March, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a sexual assault of the juvenile victim.  The investigation led to the arrest of 51-year-old William A. Smith of Dudley.  Smith is charged with two counts of 1st Degree Statutory Sexual Offense, two counts of Statutory Rape of a Child Under 13-Years of Age, and one count of Assault of a Child Under 12-years-old.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office states, “Due to the sensitive nature of the case; the need to protect the victim’s identity; and to prevent further trauma to the child; no further information will be released.
