UPDATE: Child Pulled From Pond In Critical Condition

Around 12 PM Saturday, the Goldsboro Police Department, along with the Goldsboro Fire Department and Wayne County EMS, responded to the 1900 block of S. Slocumb St in reference to a drowning.  Callers advised that a male child, approximately 7-9 years old, had gone underwater, had not come back up, and could not be found.

Officers from the GPD responded to the retention pond and upon arrival, immediately entered the water to attempt to locate the child.  Members of the Goldsboro Fire Department arrived soon thereafter and also entered the water.  A fire department member located the child underwater,  and the child was immediately taken to a waiting Wayne County EMS crew where CPR was administered.  The child was transported to Wayne UNC Healthcare and later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Investigators with the Goldsboro Police Department are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.  No further information is available at this time.  Future updates will be provided as information can be released.

UPDATE:  The child is currently listed in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
