Vigil Set For Drowning Victim

A candlelight vigil will honor a young drowning victim. 9-year-old Jaylen Suggs passed away after he was recovered from a retention pond in Goldsboro this weekend.  The vigil honoring Jaylen, known to friends and family as “Juju,” is being held at 7:30 PM tonight, Tuesday, September 10.  The vigil will take place at the pond on the corner of S. Slocumb Street and Westbrook Road.  Attendees are asked to bring flowers, bright colored balloons, candles, and whatever they feel in their heart to do to show love. This event is hosted by a family friend.

A GoFundMe page titled “Juju Gained His Wings” has been set up to assist Sugg’s family.

Monetary donations for the funeral expenses for Jaylen Suggs can be sent to the Serenity Memorial Funeral Home, 401 N. William Street, Goldsboro, NC.

Anytime a life is lost is a sad and somber time. It’s especially gut-wrenching when a child loses his life. Here’s a young man that, if it weren’t for this incident, could have grown up to be a responsible adult and could have made a big contribution to our community. What make me angry is the senseless way he had to pass away, based on the information I’ve heard from community members on how and why he ended up in the water in the drainage pond. Very sad, such a waste.
